Well, that was exciting! I just finished my first Storytime reading and author signing at Barnes and Noble in beautiful downtown Burbank. What a great experience. (Read about it here!)
There were so many people! I started to get really nervous but then I was approached by this one particular family and my heart calmed down. The mom and dad were so excited to be able to have their sweet pre-teen daughter talk to someone that knew what it felt like to go through the whole writing process. She really wanted to learn as much as she could about the wonderful world of books and writing and editing and… everything!
I then looked out at the crowd again but this time I focused on the children. They were so open in their feelings. It just shined through their faces with total enjoyment! Oh, my word how I love children. They are like little sponges just waiting to soak up everything. When I can reach even one, I am thrilled beyond words.
The really exciting part for me? I get to do this again at Glendale Barnes and Noble. I wonder who I might meet next? Will it be a future fabulous writer or maybe an amazingly talented artist yet undiscovered.
One of my favorite things to say to a child when they say, “I wish I could write” is… You can. We all have stories playing around in our heads just waiting for us to put them down on paper.
