The first bunch of stories I wrote were for grandbaby number one. My son and his beautiful bride came over one afternoon and shared with us the amazing news that we were going to be blessed with a grandchild. Later it was revealed that it was a girl! You can imagine our joy. We felt so blessed. After my brain settled back down to earth from its joy journey my first thought was: “I must start writing my stories for her!
You see, when my two children were little, I made sure to encourage the love of the written word by reading to them all the time. It soon became our bedtime routine but every night after we finished a book, they would sweetly demand I tell them one of my stories. They would chant, “Now make up one Mommy!” How could I refuse.
I had at first thought I would start with some of my “made-up” ones but when I heard they were having a girl I just had to write about fairies. What little girl doesn’t love fairies? I was so excited I sat down and in one day had outlined ten different fairies, complete with costumes and storyline which I would develop into a ten-book series.
Well, the joke was on me because the little girl I was writing them for turned out to be a boy! Seems the Doc read the ultrasound wrong. Ah well, my perfect little grandson Wyatt would have to wait a little while for his story because by that time the fairies were already growing into reality. It’s ok, I’m a fast thinker so I managed a little re-write and waa-laa! Gnomes entered the story line. The first Gnome was a certain rosy cheeked beautiful boy named… you guessed it… Wyatt. Now, a shameless plug for future book buying opportunities… There will be a Gnome series!
